Ironworks, LeedsLEEDS

A development by Igloo

THE DEVELOPMENT

Full planning permission has now been secured for ‘Ironworks’, our new residential development, and work is due to start on site in spring 2016. For more information and news on the development follow @IronworksLeeds #Ironworksleeds

We held a community consultation event, in an igloo no less, back in May this year, to unveil initial proposals for Ironworks which will be located in the Holbeck Urban Village (HUV) neighbourhood, south of Leeds City Centre and has been designed by Leeds-based Nick Brown Architects

The local community and general public were invited to comment on the outlined plans so they could inform and help shape the scheme ahead of a forthcoming planning application which will be submitted at the end of May.

Since then we have made a few changes to the plans and Ironworks will now consist of:

  • 58 one, two and three bed apartments (rather than the first proposed 60)
  • 15 townhouses
  • Retail spaces of 1,400 sq ft

Every Ironworks home will benefit from ample natural daylight and an undulating roofline orientated to optimise sunlight and the use of photovoltaic panels to generate power. There will private in-set balconies, roof-top terraces and hidden raised gardens for individual properties as well as large areas of publically accessible open space, including the highly praised and much loved ‘Wonderwood’ art park.

The homes will also be located within the footprint of Leeds South Bank – an area set for major redevelopment which stretches from HUV across the city to Leeds Dock, and there will be better access to the city centre and national transport routes once the new southern entrance to Leeds Railway Station opens later this year. This is the first residential scheme to feature houses in the Urban Village for a number of years, marking the next chapter for the area which is already home to almost 150 fast-growth businesses and 7 independent food and drink venues, and was crowned the UK and Ireland’s ‘Best neighbourhood’ at the 2015 Urbanism Awards.
